How to Relax in Front of the Camera – Tips for Natural Photos

Most of, if not all of my couples, say they do not like being in front of the camera. They feel nervous or a little awkward. I get it—you want your photos to be AMAZING. You want them to reflect all the love and joy that will unfold on your beautiful wedding day. But I know the pressure of “posing” can make you feel a little stiff and uncomfortable. If you’re wondering how to relax in front of the camera, have no fear—I have a few tips to help!

Find a photographer you trust

1.

It’s that simple. During your wedding planning, you’ll meet plenty of different photographers. I always tell my couples: find a photographer you feel happy and comfortable around.

  • Ask questions about their approach.
  • Look at their work and reviews.
  • Meet them for a chat to see if you connect.

When you find the right photographer, you’ll just know! And knowing you have someone you trust will help you feel more relaxed in front of the camera.

Book an engagement session

2  .

Once you’ve found your photographer, book an engagement session. It’s a fantastic way to:

  • Get comfortable in front of the camera.
  • See how your photographer works.
  • Build confidence before your big day.

Plus, you’ll get gorgeous natural photos of you and your partner in a location you love!

Focus on Your Connection

3 .

On your wedding day, when I take my couples away for portraits, I encourage you to focus on each other rather than the camera.

  • Hold hands, whisper inside jokes, and just be in the moment.
  • I’ll give subtle guidance, but the best photos happen when you relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Your natural chemistry will shine through in the photos, making them feel real and authentic.

Trust your photographer's guidance

4 .

Trust is everything! I’ll gently guide you into flattering poses and suggest little movements like:

  • Playing with your veil or bouquet.
  • Walking or dancing together.

Don’t overthink how you look. You already look incredible! Trusting me means you can focus on having fun, and I’ll take care of capturing the most beautiful moments.

Do not worry about looking perfect

5 .

The best photos? They’re the ones you don’t even realise are being taken!

  • Forget about posing perfectly—just enjoy your day.
  • I’m always looking for candid moments of laughter, love, and joy.
  • And remember—your natural smile is beautiful!

Take a Moment to Breathe

6 .

If nerves start creeping in, don’t worry! I’ll always remind you to:

  • Stop and take a deep breath.
  • Slow down and stay in the moment.
  • Hold your partner’s hand and re-centre yourself.

There’s no rush—just soak in the magic of the day.

Enjoy the Moment and Let Your Love Shine

At the end of the day, your wedding is about celebrating your love. Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll feel confident in front of the camera. Your photos should reflect your true selves—not a stiff, posed image.

Relax, enjoy the moment, and let your love shine through.

Don’t worry though, I’ve got you.

xXx
